CD-ROM SELECTOR 1st Ed., (C) 1993 Roger & Kathy Cox, All Rights Reserved
This CD-ROM disc may be accessed using either DOS or Windows based software.
This file will help you install and use either version of CD-ROM SELECTOR.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
DOS: 640 K RAM, VGA card and color monitor. (Printer on LPT1 is optional.)
Windows: 2 Meg RAM, 386 or better CPU, SVGA (minimum of 640x480x256 colors),
hard drive, Windows 3.1 or better, and color monitor.
(Win. compatible sound card and printer are optional.)
HARD DRIVE REQUIREMENTS:
DOS: No disk space is required. CDRS.EXE may be run directly from the
the CD-ROM drive.
WINDOWS: Some files, including CDR1.EXE, must be installed on your hard
disk. See installation instructions below. Hard disk space needed
varies from 515K to 61K, depending on which DLL files already
exist in your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
TO INSTALL THE WINDOWS VERSION:
From the Program Manager, click 'File' to display the File Menu, then click
'Run'. In the Command Line box, type "X:\setup.exe", (where X is the letter
of your CD-ROM drive). Click the 'OK' button to begin installation.
TO RUN THE DOS VERSION OF CD-ROM SELECTOR:
Be sure you have inserted the CD-ROM SELECTOR disc in your CD-ROM drive, and
that the drive is ready.
Type these two commands at the DOS prompt -
X: (set default drive to X:, where X is the letter of your CD-ROM drive)
\CDRS (run the CDRS.EXE program)
TO RUN THE WINDOWS VERSION OF CD-ROM SELECTOR:
(Be sure you have installed the necessary files using SETUP)
Be sure you have inserted the CD-ROM SELECTOR disc in your CD-ROM drive, and
that the drive is ready.
Select the CD-ROM SELECTOR Program Group, then double click on the CD-ROM
SELECTOR icon to launch the program.
SCREEN SHOT PICTURE QUALITY:
Both the DOS and Windows versions display essentially the same text and
screen shot information, but the DOS version does not require or support SVGA.
Some screen images displayed with the DOS version will show fewer colors or
lower resolution than the equivalent images displayed with the Windows version.
OPERATING TIP FOR WINDOWS USERS WITH MULTIPLE CD-ROM DRIVES, NETWORKS, OR
CD-ROM MULTICHANGER DRIVES:
When CD-ROM SELECTOR is launched using the icon as described above, it first
attempts to locate the CD-ROM drive containing the CD-ROM SELECTOR disc by
testing all system drives until it finds the correct one. This can cause an
unwanted startup delay on a large system. To prevent this, launch CD-ROM
SELECTOR from the command line of the Program Manager, and supply the correct
drive letter as a parameter to CDR1.EXE:
From the Program Manager, click 'File' to display the File Menu, then click
'Run'. In the Command Line box, type "X:\cdr1.exe X:", (where X is the letter
of your CD-ROM drive). Click the 'OK' button to start the program.
UPDATES AND USER SUPPORT:
To keep up with the fast-paced introduction of new CD-ROM titles, the
CD-ROM SELECTOR directory is updated 3 to 4 times a year. To order the latest
edition of the CD-ROM SELECTOR, or for technical support, contact:
